2009 NSW Tourism Awards

Broken Hill based tour operator Tri State Safaris has again excelled at the NSW Tourism Awards with a Gold win in the Adventure Tourism category and Silver in the Tour &/or Transport Operator category at the 2009 Gala Awards evening held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour on Thursday November 19. The NSW Tourism Awards celebrate and acknowledge tourism businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and success throughout the year.

The awards aim to encourage the continual raising of standards and publicly recognise and reward excellence. The Awards are held annually and are a submission and inspection-based competition. The Awards ceremony provides the opportunity to publicly recognise and showcase the State's finest tourism operators. Winners now pro-gress to the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Tasmania in February 2010.

Tri State Safaris owners Michael and Joanne McCulkin are understandably very excited about their success. According to Mr McCulkin some of the major benefits and rewards for entering the NSW Tourism Awards include not only the recognition from the local tourism community and the tourism industry at large but the recognition that Broken Hill receives from media coverage of the event. “We have been up against some very credible competition, and to be seen as the ‘best of the best’ in tourism is absolutely fantastic”. “Our business has grown from strength to strength, and 2009 has been an exceptionally busy year for us. Our previous awards wins have played a big part in that success”. “Our wins at both NSW and Australian level have opened up a lot of doors for us. We have received extensive media exposure and this has given us an opportunity to further promote Broken Hill as a destination.

Broken Hill and tourism have a rosy future together, and we are determined to do whatever we can to drive this further” said Joanne McCulkin.
