Induction into Tourism Hall of Fame

Broken Hill based tour operator Tri State Safaris have been awarded Silver Medals in both the Tour and Transport and the Adventure Tourism categories at the NSW Tourism Awards held at the Star City Casino on November 20th. These awards follow from a win at the national Australian Tourism Awards in February this year. The awards showcase outstanding tourism businesses and provide the tourism industry with an opportunity to build on their business and achieve recognition for their success.

Entrants complete a 30 page submission and are then subject to an on- site visit from one of the judges. Each submission can take up to 100 hours to research and complete. Tri State Safaris have been operating for 16 years and owners Michael and Joanne McCulkin are very excited about the wins. "To us, these awards are the pinnacle of recognition within the industry. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is the icing on the cake and adds considerable credibility to the 4WD industry, as traditionally it is coach and cruising companies that take out these awards" Mr McCulkin said. "We have been up against some very credible competition and to be seen as the 'best of the best' in tourism is absolutely fantastic". "Our business has grown from strength to strength and 2008 has been an exceptionally busy year for us.

Our awards wins have played a big part in that success". Joanne follows on to say "our wins at both NSW and Australian level have opened up a lot of doors for us. We have received extensive media exposure and this given us an opportunity to further promote Broken Hill as a destination. Broken Hill and tourism have a rosy future together, and we are determined to do whatever we can to drive this further".

Tri State Safaris operate a variety of 4WD tours around Broken Hill and travel as far as the Simpson Desert, the Kimberley and Cape York. They also operate the Australian 4WD Academy which conducts accredited driver and rider training courses.
