For thousands of years the Simpson Desert has been known as a remote and challenging place. Recognised as one of the world’s greatest 4WD journeys, the first motorised crossing was only completed about 50 years ago.
The area can be harsh, yet it abounds with wildlife! The desert landscape is made up of 11 different landforms which can vary considerably from year to year. Unpredictable rainfall makes it hard to predict whether the landscapes will be gleaming red sands or amass with wildflowers of all colours – but both versions of the Simpson Desert are awe-inspiring!
To add to the challenge on the August 2018 departure, we traverse the desert from east to west (the most difficult way due to the shape of the dunes). We have been travelling across the Simpson Desert for over 20 years now, and each year we look forward to the new adventures we will find there. But always we look forward to camping under skies filled with stars like you have never seen before, sharing a glass of red in the glow of a desert campfire, before discovering what lies beyond the next dune.
We consider the journey to be an emotional and awe inspiring experience, and are confident you will too!
