3 Day Mungo Deluxe Eco Tour

Step back in time as we visit Mungo National Park in the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Listed area, where evidence of human occupation dates back over 40,000 years.

  • Stunning landscapes of the “Walls of China” lunette system in Mungo National Park
  • Travel through Willandra Lakes World Heritage listed region
  • Historic river ports at Wentworth and Pooncarie
  • Confluence of the Murray & Darling Rivers
  • Marvel at the continuously shifting Perry Sandhills.
  • Charming old world accommodation at Avoca on Darling – a heritage homestead that dates back to the 1870s.
  • Enjoy lunch at the award-winning Gol Gol Hotel on the banks of the Murray River.

The first stop on your tour is the historic river port of Wentworth at the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers, where we enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch. Find your inner child at the spectacular Perry sandhills before we head to our beautiful overnight accommodation at Avoca on Darling homestead. Enjoy true outback hospitality as we share a meal with our hosts and stay in the beautiful homestead rooms.

Follow the Darling River to Pooncarie then onto Mungo National Park where you will learn about the fascinating indigenous and pastoral history of this area and soak up the magic of the “Walls of China” lunette system as the sun sets low.

As we explore this part of the Willandra Lakes World Heritage listed region you will be delighted by the experience that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Learn about the region, which contains a system of ancient lakes formed over the last two million years, most of which are fringed by a crescent shaped dune or lunette. Aborigines lived on the shores of the lakes for at least 50,000 years, and the remains of a 40,000 year old female found in the dunes of Lake Mungo are believed to be the oldest ritual cremation site in the world.

Enjoy a fantastic meal and luxury accommodation at the nearby Mungo Lodge.
As your adventure continues we enjoy a lunch at the award-winning Gol Gol Hotel on the banks of the Murray River, before continuing through Mildura on your way back to Broken Hill.
